August 30, 2019:  Pang to Sarchu:  1320M up, 86km, 4,394m (14,416ft) end

Two high passes today:

The first was Lachulung La 5,080M

The second was Nakleela  4,9020M

Cycling up the two passes was very hard due to the altitude, the bit of cold rain and bits of hail just added to complete the experience.

Today we descended off Nakleela one descends to the Tsarap river via the Gata Loops, a very famous set of 21 switchbacks that are simply spectacular.  Possibly one of the best cyclist descents in the world.  I suggest maybe not the best road to take your mother in law for a ride - not one “slow to” sign, not one “curve ahead” sign and effectively no barricades - I did not glance over the edge whilst cycling.

 Some pics:

About to descend the Gata loops - note all the curve signs, slow to signed and barricades!

Our camp tonight

Unfortunately we have had two people suffer from altitude sickness and one who thought better of attempting the high passes.  All three will be joining us in Manali  at a lower altitude of approx 1,800M or 7,000 ft.
