Lato to Tso Kar camp, Aug 28, 2019:  1,570M up 900M dwn, 5,359M max

An absolutely spectacular day, but set a new standard for me of brutally hard.

We had a 38km climb right from breakfast, topping out at 5359M (17,582ft.) at the TangLang la. (la means pass).  This will be the highest point of the whole tour and probably our toughest day.  Supposedly the 2nd highest road pass in the world (some contention on that).

Just for reference the Everest Base Camps are at an elevation of 5380M (17,600ft).

The scenery on the climb was very similar to the last couple of days.

Yes, the top of the climb is on the ridge.

Most of the time the road was excellent, but quite a few washout sections:

A couple pics at the top:

Amazing difference between the countryside on the ascent and descent.  The descent was into a widening valley - amazing countryside

Tonight we are in nice tents, but not the really nice ones with on-suites.  A couple times now a shower means going to the water tank with a solar panel, getting a bucket of usually very hot water, going to the shower room and using a larger cup one dumps the hot water over one’s self, soaps and rinses off.  It is quite luxurious, even if the shower room is quite rough.  It is even better if there is a mirror, it makes it easier to pour the water on you, not missing.
